Silicone switch rethought: Silicone composite part used for perfect lighting
Silicone is a popular material: The elastic, tear-resistant material is used primarily in demanding applications, for example for switch covers on agricultural machinery. Here, our silicone product impresses with its partially transparent properties, which enable colored lighting. With a Shore hardness of 35 Shore A, the material offers optimal elasticity and durability, even under extreme conditions.
The switch cover is made of silicone in two different colors: The transparent switch surface allows the switch to be illuminated in color, while the side areas made of black silicone ensure that the light does not radiate to the sides. By using colored LEDs, the switch is illuminated from below in red or green, for example: Many machines indicate the "on" and "off" states with one red and one green illuminated switch.
Precise manufacturing using the injection molding process
Extreme precision is required in the production of the two-coloured silicone cover. First, one silicone is injected into the injection moulding tool, then the second, differently coloured silicone follows. The two silicones must be perfectly separated in the tool to prevent the colours from running into each other and to achieve a sharp-edged separation. Technical know-how and experience are required to achieve the perfect result, as the injection timing must be precisely coordinated.
Properties of silicone in detail
- High level of detail: Ideal for precise impressions, perfect for finely structured applications.
- UV and weather resistance: This makes the material ideal for outdoor applications.
- Tear resistance and hardness: The material remains stable and durable even under high loads.
- Temperature resistance: Can be used in a temperature range from -40°C to 200°C, briefly even up to 220°C.
- Chemical resistance : Resistant to aggressive substances and chemicals.
