Seals: Water jet cut
The technologically and economically interesting alternative to punched gaskets
The technologically and economically interesting alternative to punched gaskets
How reliably a gasket works in practice is determined not only by the material from which the gasket is made, but also by the processing method used. If you need seals made of solid rubber, cellular rubber, foams or technical plastics, the water jet-cut version may be the optimum manufacturing process for you.
We recommend the water jet cutting process - WSS process for short - for the production of individual parts and small quantities as well as large series. It allows the realisation of seals with
- smallest bores and geometries,
- right-angled and bevelled cut surfaces (2.5 D) and
- thin wall thicknesses with clean, precise edges.
However, scoring and burr formation cannot always be 100% avoided. Depending on the softness of the material when installed, this can be neglected. Unlike punching, even very soft and cellular sealing materials can be cut without deformation. Due to the possibility of parallel cuts, concave cutting patterns are excluded with waterjet cutting. In addition, this process is very popular in the prototype phase for the cost-effective production of short profile sections for geometry tuning. Speaking of costs: Production costs can be reduced because the WSS process avoids offcuts and material waste and enables quick programme changes during production.
No moulds are required to manufacture your seals with CNC-controlled waterjet cutting systems - we only need your CAD data in DXF or DWG format of the desired product. Contact KREMER when it comes to waterjet cut gaskets and let's talk about your gasket application and requirements!

Three good reasons why we are the right supplier for you:
Seals customised precisely to your application
Waterjet cutting of gaskets allows a broad production spectrum and opens up numerous possibilities in realisation that would not be possible with other processes. Nevertheless, there are always wishes and priorities that are not specified anywhere. Our strength lies in identifying these details and producing waterjet-cut gaskets that are customised to your specific application and optimally matched to your sealing application.
Our specialist consultants have the experience gained from working with numerous customers from a wide range of sectors and industries and are able to provide you with comprehensive advice and respond precisely to your specifications.
Fast quotation preparation and short delivery times
Do you not only value a supplier with comprehensive expertise, but also speed? For many of our customers, the deadline set for procurement plays a key role, as important production processes depend on the availability of seals. Our specialist consultants therefore tackle this challenge efficiently and flexibly for you:
As soon as we have received your enquiry with all the specifications or you have informed us, you will usually receive a customised quotation for your waterjet-cut gaskets from us within 24 hours. If you are happy with this, very little time will pass afterwards: as soon as we know all the parameters for waterjet-cut gaskets, we can give you the shortest possible delivery time.
Quality in every respect
Another strength that our customers appreciate about us is the excellent relationship between the price and quality of the seals. This is primarily due to the fact that when selecting our suppliers, we only use those who fulfil the high demands of our customers.
In addition to product quality, ecological and ethical criteria are important to us. These requirements, as well as our ISO 9001:2015 certification, make us your ideal supplier for water jet cut gaskets.

Do you have any questions about our products?
Whether O-rings, seals, moulded parts or materials - in the FAQ section you will find answers and lots of further information about the KREMER product range.
It all depends on the dimensions!
The KREMER calculation programmes allow you to calculate the parameters of your application quickly and precisely. Because O-rings, moulded parts or rubber profiles can only function optimally if the dimensions are correct. With just a few clicks, you can carry out installation and tolerance calculations with the KREMER calculation programmes.
Further information
Sheet goods, blanks and flat and flange gaskets manufactured from sheet material that fulfil tolerance class P1 (fine) place higher demands on
- the dimensional accuracy,
- the surface finish and
- precision.
Compliance with tolerance class P1 is associated with higher costs compared to P2 or P3. Please allow more budget for tolerance class P1.
For the vast majority of technical applications, compliance with tolerance class P2 (medium) is sufficient. Sheet goods, blanks and flat gaskets made from sheet material that comply with tolerance class P2 (medium) fulfil standard commercial requirements for precision and dimensional accuracy.
Suitable for all applications where dimensional accuracy is not so important. This tolerance class is used almost exclusively for the thickness of sheets and rolls.
It is used for sheet material, blanks and flat gaskets made from sheet material that correspond to tolerance class P3 (coarse). There are no special requirements in terms of precision and dimensional accuracy.
The use of self-adhesive film for elastomer products can be helpful for the user for several reasons. Self-adhesive seals are used, for example, for overhead installation of a seal or to prevent loss during transport of pre-assembled components.
If gaskets, especially profile gaskets with self-adhesive film, are used as an assembly aid for installation, this means that the self-adhesive film has no influence on the function of the gasket after installation.
Punched gaskets self-adhesive on film are a convenient solution that makes installation easier and safer. If the adhesive film is to have a function other than that of a self-adhesive film for mounting purposes, this must be explicitly stated in the enquiry. Our product advisors will carefully check the information about the intended use and include it in the quotation according to the possibilities.
In addition to the proper processing and handling of the self-adhesive film in the seal manufacturer's production facility, the storage of the elastomer finished products at the customer's premises plays a decisive role in the durability of the self-adhesive elastomer and silicone products.
The right processing
- Ensure sufficient and even contact pressure.
- Processing tools (including hands) must be free of release agent.
- In the case of extreme loads on bonded joints, it should be noted that the maximum adhesive strength is only reached after approx. 24 hours.
- Avoid permanent tension on the bond.
Underground:
- Do not apply to surfaces containing silicones, paraffins or waxes.
- Do not use paints with adhesion-reducing additives.
- Ensure freedom from dust.
- Ensure freedom from plasticisers.
- Ensure dry surfaces.
- Cover as smooth, closed surfaces as possible.
- Exclude chemical reactions of the surfaces.
Temperatur:
- The optimum bonding temperature is between 20 and 30°C in dry rooms.
- If possible, do not work below 10°C.
- Storage temperature at 18°C and approx. 55% relative humidity.
Influences that impair the adhesive strength of the self-adhesive film:
- High humidity, grease, oil, dust and/or dirt on the surfaces of the parts to be bonded.
- Plasticiser migration.
- Improper storage (deviating from DIN 7716).
Storage and shelf life
As a general rule, only a limited shelf life can be assumed for self-adhesive seals. The shelf life of the film may be shorter than the warranty period of 12 months for self-adhesive products. It is therefore particularly important that the storage and processing instructions are observed. We recommend that self-adhesive products are processed within six months.
Warranty conditions "Self-adhesive products"
The product must be processed within six months of delivery, taking into account the above-mentioned storage temperature, humidity and processing instructions. No liability/warranty can be accepted for products processed at a later date.
