Temporary gear lock for window construction – economical, practical, secure
In building shells, protecting newly installed windows is often a challenge: unauthorised opening, dirt or damage caused by other trades can impair the mechanics and cause unnecessary costs. Together with a customer from the window and façade construction industry, KREMER has developed a practical and economical solution – a temporary chamber gear lock that reliably locks and protects the window.
Why a gear lock is useful in shell construction
In many new buildings, window handles are deliberately removed after installation to protect them from theft and dirt – especially in high-quality designs. However, without a handle, the window remains vulnerable: it can be opened or moved improperly using simple tools such as screwdrivers. This can cause damage to the mechanics, such as the gear, square or frame, and subsequently costs time and money.
A temporary gear lock prevents precisely this problem. The component is installed immediately after installation, ensures that the mechanics are securely covered and provides reliable protection against improper opening – until final completion.
Smart toolmaking saves costs
The solution from KREMER is impressive not only in terms of functionality, but also in terms of cost-effectiveness. Together with the toolmaker, a concept was developed in which only tool inserts had to be manufactured for an existing master mould. The advantage: there is no need for the costly construction of a complete tool – the investment remains manageable, even for smaller quantities.
This efficient moulded part production is ideal for applications where it is not maximum precision that counts, but robust, functional solutions – as in this case in body shell construction.
Easy handling, high benefit
The temporary gear lock is easy to install and remove. The procedure is very simple:
- The windows are professionally installed and adjusted.
- The window handle is deliberately removed.
- The gear lock is installed and reliably closes the opening of the gear.
- Only after all construction work has been completed is the lock removed and the handle reinstalled.
This keeps the window protected and locked throughout the entire construction phase – without the risk of accidental damage or tampering and without the danger of accidents, such as falling out of the window.
Advantages of the gear lock at a glance
The KREMER solution offers numerous advantages for window manufacturers and construction companies:
- Cost-efficient thanks to tool inserts instead of complete tools
- Safe on construction sites: protection against dirt, mechanical stress and vandalism
- Easy to use – quick installation, no special tools required
- Time and cost savings thanks to reduced reworking on the window
