New measuring system in quality assurance: greater efficiency and precision thanks to optical measurement technology

Why a new solution?

In the past, many measurement processes were carried out manually – depending on the operator, with variable accuracy and at great expense in terms of time. The test planning and execution therefore needed to be rethought and brought up to the latest technical standards. The central question was: How can repeatability, precision and speed be increased in the measurement process?

The result: Keyence LM-X

After comparing several manufacturer systems, KREMER opted for the LM-X optical 2D/3D measurement system from Keyence. The advantages over the previous solution are clear:

  • High measurement accuracy with completely non-contact operation
  • High repeatability, independent of the operator
  • Semi-automated process with automatic recording of all measuring points
  • Seamless data export to the existing CAQ system (Babtec)
  • Measurement times of only 30 to 120 seconds per part for known products

The direct interface to Babtec ensures that measurement results are documented automatically and without errors – a major step towards an even more reliable and efficient QA structure.

‘By using the Keyence LM-X, we have not only been able to significantly reduce measurement times, but also significantly increase process reliability,’ says André Friedl, Head of Quality Management. ‘The influence of subjective operator input has been almost completely eliminated, ensuring reliably reproducible results.’

From initial sampling to series testing

The flexibility of the system also impressed in practical use: during initial sampling, a defined measurement scheme is created, which can then be used automatically for subsequent tests. This eliminates the need for time-consuming reconfiguration – a clear advantage for series products.

A glimpse into the future

With the introduction of the Keyence LM-X, KREMER is focusing on future-proof quality assurance. The new solution not only significantly increases process speed, but also improves traceability and documentation in QA in the long term. At the same time, it reduces sources of error through manual intervention to a minimum.

For our customers, this means even more reliable product quality, faster testing processes and maximum precision – right from the start.

As part of a quality assurance optimisation project, KREMER has introduced a new, state-of-the-art measuring system. The aim was to modernise the existing testing process and increase both efficiency and the level of automation, particularly in goods receiving. After an intensive test phase, the LM-X series from manufacturer Keyence was selected.
