Coatings and round caps in special colours: Why colour in industry is more than just aesthetics

Whilst colours are often associated with design and brand identity in the consumer goods sector, in technical applications they primarily fulfil functional roles. Particularly in the case of PVC round caps, protective caps and coated components, colours can play a decisive role in making processes safer, more efficient and easier to understand.

Design engineers and technical buyers are often faced with the challenge of not only designing components to the correct technical specifications, but also making them clearly identifiable. Colours offer a simple and universally understood solution to this. They function as a non-verbal means of communication – regardless of the user’s language, background or qualifications.

Colours as a universal language in industry

Colours have been used specifically in production environments for decades. Certain shades are firmly associated with specific meanings:

  • Red stands for danger, attention or stop.
  • Yellow signals caution or a warning.
  • Blue is often associated with safety, information or mandatory measures.
  • Green often indicates safe areas or authorisations.
  • Orange is used to indicate the need for increased attention and technical warnings.

These colour assignments enable quick orientation and reduce the risk of operating errors. Colours play a particularly important communicative role in international production sites where staff speak different languages.

PVC round caps and dip-moulded parts with a visual indicator function

PVC dip-moulded parts are used in numerous industrial applications. Typical areas of application include:

  • Protection of pipe ends and threads
  • Covering of sensitive components
  • Transport protection
  • Painting masks
  • Handles and control components
  • Covers for metal parts as a finishing touch

In addition to their protective function, round caps and coatings can also be used to identify products, assemblies or process steps. For example, different diameters, variants or production stages can be immediately recognised by their different colours.

Colour-coded components can significantly increase process reliability, particularly when dealing with high volumes or complex assembly processes.

Wide range of colours to meet individual requirements

At KREMER, we manufacture PVC dip-coated parts and round caps from Krevosol® in a wide range of colours. In addition to standard colours, numerous special colours are available, such as gentian blue (similar to RAL 510) and anthracite (similar to RAL 7016). This ensures that both technical requirements and corporate standards can be met. Furthermore, individual design specifications can be met; tool coatings are often applied in the company’s corporate colour.

Existing tools are available for many standard dimensions. This means that custom colour variants can be produced immediately, cost-effectively and with short lead times.

Coatings in special colours: function meets ergonomics

It is not only round caps that benefit from custom colour schemes. PVC dip-coating of metal parts also opens up a wide range of possibilities.

Typical applications include:

  • Tool handles
  • Clamping levers
  • Brackets
  • Control elements
  • Transport frames
  • Protective bars

The dip-coating process creates a robust, electrically insulating and non-slip surface. At the same time, the desired colour can be integrated directly into the material. This allows control areas to be marked, product families to be distinguished, or corporate design guidelines to be implemented.
Particularly in the case of tools or devices with multiple variants, colour coding simplifies day-to-day work and reduces the risk of mix-ups.

Special solutions for specific requirements

In addition to classic colour variants, we offer further special designs. These include, for example, phosphorescent PVC caps and coatings. These store light energy and release it in the dark. This makes it easier to identify safety-critical components or control elements, even during power cuts. Furthermore, special material variants with a pearl-textured surface are available. These provide a particularly pleasant feel and improve the grip of handles and control elements.
