Stress cracking
Moulded parts and stamped parts made of EPDM in combination with transparent materials such as PMMA (Plexiglas®) or polycarbonate must be tested for their stress cracking effect. Stress cracks , triggered by components of unsuitable rubber mixtures, initially appear in the form of harmless microcracks (so-called silverfish) and can develop into clearly visible cracks until a component fails. The stress cracks run at a 90° angle to the direction of stress and preferably form first at the clamping points with the highest tensile stress level.
