Formed-In-Place-Gasket (FIPG)
The sealant is applied in beads before installation and before vulcanization; the seal is achieved without additional pressing and without pressure. After vulcanization, the sealant adheres to both sides of the components to be sealed.
Materials: RTV-1 and self-adhesive RTV-2 silicone types
Normally, RTV-1 silicone rubber is applied in liquid, pasty form to the part to be sealed. The application is carried out with high precision using a robot or coordinate table. After assembly, the silicone rubber hardens under the influence of humidity.
In the case of surface sealing (metal-metal), the flange surfaces are pressed together until there is direct metal-metal contact or the height is determined by spacers
Advantages:
• Seal adapts perfectly to the gap
• No compression of the seal
• Small amount of material
• Rationalization in storage and when changing the geometry of the sealing parts
• No special processing of the flange surface necessary
• Simple flange construction
• Can be applied automatically
• High reliability of the seal due to good adhesion
• Flexible and cost-effective solution compared to pre-formed seals (FIPG technology)
• RTV-1 silicone rubber is normally applied in liquid, pasty form to the part to be sealed
• The seal adheres to both flange parts
Disadvantages:• Destruction of the seal during disassembly
• Application quantity must be checked
• Full load capacity only after curingPossible uses:
• Oil pan
• Crankcase
• Timing case
• Oil separator plate
