Probably the longest PVC round cap in the world

Based on the well-known advertisement for a chocolate bar, KREMER presents what is definitely the longest Krevosol® diving part in the world - 150 cm long and 14 cm in inner diameter. We have only made two examples of this giant diving part. We tell the story behind it here.

Large-format PVC dipped parts in small quantities

The renowned Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technology and Systems IKTS asked KREMER for a giant round cap and the sealing experts got to work. The technology was quickly clarified: the requirement could only be implemented as a dipped part due to the extremely small number of units. PVC dipped parts are usually 1, 10 or even 50 cm long.

Our technicians looked into whether all the process steps for producing the round cap with such a long and heavy steel core could be implemented. The inventors made a special immersion tank with a depth of 180 cm, into which liquid Krevosol® was filled.

Using a construction for the company's own forklift, the steel tool, which had previously been heated in an oven, was transported to the dipping tank and lowered from a height of 3.6 m into the PVC mass of the special tank. In the next step, the tool was raised again after a correspondingly long dipping time, the excess PVC mass was allowed to drip off, and the Krevosol® coating was then returned to the oven and gelled there at significantly lower temperatures.

The material solidifies during this production step. After 2 hours, the time had finally come. What is probably the longest PVC round cap in the world could be removed from the steel tool, which had cooled down in the meantime. The material used was Krevosol® 3842, 75 Shore A in black . Another 2 hours later, the second part was also manufactured.

PVC diving parts – individually manufactured

We at KREMER have been using our own brand Krevosol® for over two years. Due to the material properties and special features, immersion parts made of soft PVC and metal coatings with soft PVC are suitable for a wide range of special requirements.

Our customers can choose between the glossy surface of the standard PVC types or the matt, fine-pored surface, a special material with a pearl structure look . The standard PVC material types are used in the manufacture of immersion parts such as cover caps for round and rectangular pipes, as paint covers or for coating metal parts such as latches and handles on clamping elements in many brilliant colors. Immersion parts made of Krevosol® impress with a wide range of temperature resistance from -40° C to +80° C , can be colored and are tear-resistant.
